Set along the forested shore of Lake Wenatchee, Cabin in a Cabin transforms a 1915 log structure into the centerpiece of a modern retreat. Rather than replace the original cabin, the design preserves it entirely - encased within a new, contemporary shell that frames it like an artifact in a museum.
Inside, circulation paths wrap around the preserved structure, linking shared and private spaces while maintaining a sense of reverence for the past. The rugged hand-hewn logs and stone chimney contrast with the refined simplicity of the new architecture, creating a dialogue between old and new.
A natural material palette, efficient planning, and site-sensitive detailing reflect the clients’ minimalist sensibility and the home’s proximity to Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. The result is a quiet, modern retreat that honors memory and craft, while preserving what matters and making room for what’s next.
